DINGO

Behind the creation of the ultralight aircraft, which bears the name DINGO, is none other than Marek Ivanov. At the beginning of 2021, the first 3D images were shown to the entire Future Vehicles team, who decided that something like this had its place in the sky!

„My long-time dream was to build something like Hovey Whing Ding because I like it, but a little bigger so I can fly it.“

Ing. Marek Ivanov

Chief Designer of DINGO

That is why part of the team headed by Mark embarked on a detailed drawing of the individual sections of the airframe, where the weight, production technology, practicality, simplicity and, last but not least, the appearance of the aircraft as a whole were decisive.
It didn’t take long for the parts to form the individual parts of the aircraft. In the autumn of 2021, the fuselage was riveted, followed by a rudder, stabilizer, landing gear and at the end of the wings. During production, there was also room for improvements to some parts that were retroactively entered into the 3D model, which already seemed to be final.

At the beginning of 2022, the whole team was looking forward to the delivery of the engine, so we took advantage of the time and successfully carried out the load tests. After receiving the engine and other necessary parts, nothing prevented the aircraft from being completed.

The maiden flight of the DINGO prototype was made on 22.6.2022 at the Jaroměř – LKJA airport.

„Flying with DINGO is the second most fun option for me to fly, right after aerobatics.“

Ing. Jan Jílek

Test pilot

Why DINGO?
In 1971, the aircraft called Hovey Whing Ding had its maiden flight and inspired the aviators to establish a new category of aircraft very well known as FAR – part 103. In the 1970s, unfortunately, a suitable engine was not available. So, the Hovey Whing Ding could fly only over the flat fields.
The DINGO has been developed to honour the legacy of the first „ultralight“ Hovey Whing Ding as a reminder of what was behind the establishment of today’s widespread aircraft category.

Design
The Dingo is a single-seat open cockpit biplane, powerplant in pusher configuration and classic landing gear with a T-tail empennage. It was designed with a focus on easy and quick assembly. That is guaranteed by the so-called „hole-to-hole“ technology used for DINGO production. The sheet metal parts are drilled and prepared to allow the builder to only rivet them together.
The airframe is riveted from sheets made of aluminium alloy 6061 and 2024, which are commonly used in the aerospace industry. The wings, floating elevator and rudder are covered with Ceconite polyester fabric. There is a composite seat riveted to the front part of the fuselage. The 10 l plastic fuel tank is located inside the fuselage behind the pilot’s seat and behind that, the powerplant is mounted to the fuselage by using rubber silent blocks. The main landing gear is welded from thin-walled steel tubes and attached by bolts to the bottom part of the fuselage under the seat. The tail gear is steerable and equipped with a spring element made of rubber silent block. The ailerons and elevator are connected to the stick by push-pull rods, and the rudder is connected to welded pedals by cables.

What do the manuals look like?
Manuals are created in two versions. The first version is an illustrated manual in pdf. This pdf manual includes assembly breakdowns and part numbers. The second version is the videos of the individual airframe subassemblies, which show the sequence of how to correctly assemble the DINGO.
